CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida – NASA delayed the debut of its towering moon rocket Monday right after problems emerged through countdown, suspending the launch from the Kennedy House Center.

The company was slated to launch its Artemis I mission for the duration of a two hour-prolonged start window that opened at 8:33 a.m. ET, sending the Room Launch Technique (SLS) rocket and Orion capsule on a much more than month-very long journey all around the moon.

But with below two hours to go in the countdown, NASA was troubleshooting issues discovered with the SLS rocket.

As propellants have been loaded into the rocket, the agency was performing to handle a temperature issue identified with a person of the four liquid-fueled engines.

It also observed a hydrogen leak in the engines and a crack in the thermal security system product that protects the core of the rocket — while those people problems were settled.

The company has back-up launch dates scheduled for Sept. 2 and Sept. 5, while regardless of whether the challenges will be solved in advance of then is still not known.

The uncrewed start marks the debut of the most effective rocket ever assembled and kicks off NASA’s extensive-awaited return to the moon’s surface area. It can be the to start with mission in NASA’s Artemis lunar software, which is expected to land the agency’s astronauts on the moon by its 3rd mission in 2025.

Even though Artemis I will not have astronauts, nor land on the moon, the mission is vital to demonstrating that NASA’s monster rocket and deep space capsule can produce on their promised talents. Artemis I has been delayed for several years, with the plan working billions about budget.

This story is building. You should look at back again for updates.
