Visitor arrivals to Japan dropped in June, amid a prophecy in a manga, or Japanese comic book, that predicted a “disaster” would strike the country in July 2025. The rumor went viral on social media, sparking an abrupt downturn in arrivals from countries in Eastern and Southeastern Asia.
