President Donald Trump is speaking on Wednesday at the U.S.-Saudi Investment Forum in Washington, D.C.
Trump’s appearance at the Kennedy Center comes a day after he hosted Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia at the White House.
Bin Salman told reporters on Tuesday that Saudi Arabia was committing to investing $1 trillion in the United States, a sharply higher amount than the $600 billion previously pledged.
Bin Salman’s visit to the U.S. was his first since 2018, when a Saudi hit team killed the journalist Jamal Khashoggi in his nation’s consulate in Istanbul. U.S. intelligence later concluded that bin Salman approved an operation to capture or kill Khashoggi.
Trump on Tuesday claimed that bin Salman “knew nothing about it, and we can leave it at that.”
“Things happen,” Trump said, in regards to the murder of Khashoggi, who was a U.S. resident.
“You’re mentioning somebody that was extremely controversial,” Trump told a reporter who asked about Khashoggi’s killing.
