Talks starting up Saudi Arabia this weekend to uncover a tranquil settlement to conclusion Russia’s war in Ukraine will be difficult, but Kyiv is counting persuading much more international locations to back its peace components, the head of Kyiv’s delegation reported on Friday.

Ukraine and its allies hope the meeting in Jeddah of national safety advisers and other senior officers from some 40 international locations — but not Russia — will concur on important concepts on how to conclusion Russia’s war in Ukraine.

“I expect that the discussion will be hard, but at the rear of us is real truth, driving us — goodness,” Andriy Yermak, head of President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s place of work and his crucial envoy for the talks, mentioned late on Friday in a television job interview published on his Telegram messaging application.

The discussion board excludes Russia, but the Kremlin mentioned it will “retain an eye” on the assembly. China, which has firm ties with Russia, claimed on Friday it will send out Exclusive Envoy for Eurasian Affairs Li Hui for the talks.

“We have quite a few disagreements and we have listened to various positions, but it is essential that our ideas are shared,” he stated.

Ukrainian, Russian and intercontinental officials say there is no prospect of direct peace talks among Ukraine and Russia at the second, as the war continues to rage and Kyiv seeks to reclaim territory via a counter-offensive.

But Ukraine aims first to make a larger coalition of diplomatic assistance further than its main Western backers by reaching out to World South nations such as India, Brazil and South Africa, quite a few of which have remained publicly neutral.

Zelenskyy said he hoped the initiative will lead to a “peace summit” of globe leaders this autumn to endorse the ideas, based on his personal 10-point method for a settlement. Moscow has rejected Zelenskyy’s peace method.
