Tesla ban on professional-union shirts violated workers’ legal rights, labor board guidelines

Tesla violated workers’ legal rights when it advised workforce they could not put on shirts with professional-union insignia at the manufacturing facility, The Countrywide Labor Relations Board ruled in a selection out Monday.

The NLRB is now mandating that Elon Musk’s electric powered car maker “cease and desist from preserving and enforcing the extremely wide group-use policy that prohibits production associates from wearing black union shirts.”

Tesla will also be demanded to notify present-day personnel that their “group-wear plan” has been rescinded or revised, and offer a copy of any revised policy.

The selection contradicts a 2019 ruling more than gown code insurance policies at Walmart that authorized the retail titan to limit (but not ban) personnel from putting on pro-union insignia at get the job done.

Two associates of the labor board dissented on the Tesla ruling, while a few moved to overrule the prior Walmart final decision.
