The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that the affirmative action admission guidelines of Harvard and the University of North Carolina, which gave excess weight to a would-be student’s race, are unconstitutional.

The court’s vast majority belief reported that both of those Harvard’s and UNC’s affirmative action plans “unavoidably employ race in a damaging way, require racial stereotyping, and lack meaningful end points.”

“We have in no way permitted admissions packages to perform in that way, and we will not do so nowadays,” the view said.
