Spotify will use AI to replicate podcasters’ voices and translate them to other languages

Spotify on Monday declared a new artificial intelligence-powered aspect that can translate podcasts into various languages applying the host’s personal voice.

The enterprise claimed the characteristic relies on OpenAI’s voice era technologies, which was also introduced Monday. The engineering can generate “real looking artificial voices” from just a few seconds of speech, OpenAI explained in a release. Spotify claimed it will aid make the podcast listening expertise much more reliable and all-natural by maintaining podcasters’ “exclusive speech traits.”

Shares of Spotify have been down all over 2% Monday early morning. Spotify did not straight away reply to CNBC’s ask for for remark.

The business worked with podcasters like Dax Shepard, Lex Fridman, Monica Padman, Steven Bartlett and Bill Simmons on a decide on variety of previous and impending episodes. Spotify stated the episodes were being originally translated into Spanish, French and German, and they will be offered to both equally no cost users and paid subscribers in the coming times and weeks, in accordance to the launch.

Spotify said it options to make the function available for much more creators and languages in the upcoming. The business is now performing on the comic Trevor Noah’s upcoming new podcast, for instance.

“This is just the starting,” Spotify claimed in the launch.
