WASHINGTON — House Speaker Kevin McCarthy advised CNBC in an interview he does not assume the U.S. will default on its credit card debt as tense negotiations around the financial debt ceiling go on.

“I believe at the conclude of the working day we do not have a debt default,” McCarthy informed CNBC’s “Squawk Box” Wednesday early morning.
