Scotland are unable to maintain an independence referendum with no British isles governing administration approval, top court guidelines

LONDON — The U.K.’s Supreme Court on Wednesday informed the Scottish authorities it are not able to maintain a clean independence referendum without the U.K. government’s consent.

Supreme Court President Lord Reed said in broadcast remarks that the Scottish Parliament did not have the electrical power to legislate on issues reserved to the U.K. Parliament, like the union.

A referendum was held in in September 2014 in which Scotland voted to remain in the U.K. by 55% to 45%.
