Pentagon claims Iranian drone &#x27attack&#x27 strike chemical tanker near India

A drone launched from Iran struck a chemical tanker in the Indian ocean early on Saturday, the U.S. Office of Protection stated.

“The motor vessel CHEM PLUTO, a Liberia-flagged, Japanese-owned, and Netherlands-operated chemical tanker was struck at about 10 a.m. local time (6 a.m. GMT) right now in the Indian Ocean, 200 nautical miles from the coastline of India, by a a single-way assault drone fired from Iran,” a Pentagon spokesperson explained to Reuters.

The incident highlights escalating regional tensions and new possibility to transport lanes after the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israel.

The Iranian govt, as nicely as its allied militant forces in Yemen, have publicly criticized the Israeli government’s navy procedure in Gaza.

Countless numbers of Palestinian citizens have been killed in the ongoing conflict, in accordance to aid screens.

The Pentagon statement reported this was the “seventh Iranian assault on industrial shipping and delivery because 2021.”

There were being no casualties as a result of the attack and a quick fireplace on board the tanker was extinguished.

The incident took position only 200 nautical miles from the coastline of India.

A spokesperson for the Iranian delegation at the United Nations did not right away reply to a request for remark.
