It advanced out of the now-defunct Trans-Pacific Partnership, or TPP, a trade bloc that was originated by the United States but which fell apart right after previous President Donald Trump scrapped U.S. involvement.

The United Kingdom is in the system of becoming a member of the CPTPP, a go that it hopes would enable it diversify its trade partnerships, significantly considering the fact that the country departed from the European Union.
