Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government on Wednesday claimed it has asked the Tamil Nadu state to post a “detailed report” soon after a Reuters story discovered that Apple supplier Foxconn rejected married women from Iphone assembly careers in the place.
In a statement calling for the probe, the federal government’s Ministry of Labor and Employment cited the Equivalent Remuneration Act of 1976, saying the legislation “clearly stipulates that no discrimination (is) to be built when recruiting men and women of all ages workers.”
The ministry stated it has asked for a detailed report from the Labor Section of Tamil Nadu, internet site of a major Apple iphone manufacturing unit where Reuters uncovered Foxconn’s observe of shunning married gals from jobs.
