Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg urged a decide to reject the eleventh-hour bid by Donald Trump to delay his approaching criminal hush money trial because of to biased media coverage.

Bragg, who accuses Trump of falsifying small business data in a plan to conceal a payment to porn star Stormy Daniels, said in a court filing shared Wednesday that the former president himself is to blame for the rabid press.

Trump’s “have incessant rhetoric is generating considerable publicity, and it would be perverse to reward [him] with an adjournment based on media interest he is actively trying to find,” Bragg told New York Supreme Court docket Decide Juan Merchan.

Trump “just are not able to have it the two methods: complaining about the prejudicial impact of pretrial publicity, whilst searching for to pollute the jury pool himself by building baseless and inflammatory accusations about this demo, unique witnesses, particular person prosecutors, and the Court alone,” Bragg wrote.

Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, is also incorrect to claim that the deluge of publicity suggests he cannot get a honest jury, the D.A. wrote.

An “indefinite adjournment” is also unwarranted, Bragg included, since the media’s emphasis on the circumstance is not likely to recede.

Trump previous month requested for a “sizeable” hold off of the demo — which is established to commence jury variety on April 15 — until the publicity bordering it “subsides.”

That request marked Trump’s eighth try to thrust back the start off of the demo, Bragg noted in his submitting Wednesday.

The D.A. argued that Trump has unsuccessful to exhibit both that the press protection of the circumstance has been prejudicial to him, or that the jury pool has been tainted.

And because the publicity is probable to enhance, the option “is therefore to maintain this demo quicker instead than later on,” Bragg wrote.

Trump’s attorneys argued that the pool of possible jurors has been exposed to “big amounts of biased and unfair media protection,” and that numerous of them “by now wrongfully believe that that President Trump is guilty.”

Just after they filed that hold off ask for, Merchan imposed a gag buy barring Trump from community remarks about probable witnesses and jurors, and from earning certain statements about other figures involved in the situation and their family customers.

Trump responded with a social media tirade in opposition to the decide and the case, though also targeting the judge’s adult daughter above her do the job for a Democratic political company. At minimum one of Trump’s posts on Truth Social bundled the daughter’s entire name and photo.

Bragg on Monday urged Merchan to increase the gag order, calling Trump’s rhetoric “perilous, violent, and reprehensible.”

“Such fears will unquestionably interfere with the fair administration of justice and constitutes a direct attack on the Rule of Law by itself.”

Trump’s attorneys now are after all over again hoping to get the decide eradicated from the scenario by pointing to his daughter’s work for Reliable Campaigns, which lists among the its consumers Trump’s Democratic rival, President Joe Biden.

Merchan experienced already turned down a prior try for his recusal, which similarly argued that the daughter’s political career established an visual appeal of bias.
