The Francis Scott Key Bridge partly collapsed in the early hrs of Tuesday early morning next a ship collision, area authorities claimed.

The incident took put at 1:35 a.m. community time on Tuesday, and staff could have fallen into h2o, in accordance to a Baltimore Metropolis law enforcement spokesperson.

“I-695 Critical Bridge collapse due to ship strike. Active scene,” the Maryland Transportation Authority claimed on social media.

A massive container ship hit the bridge overnight, and there appeared to be personnel on the crossing at the time of the incident, Baltimore Fireplace Division Battalion Chief Glenn Kukucka advised CNBC by phone. He extra that the vessel associated in the collision appeared to have sustained hurt.

The Francis Scott Key Bridge carries Route 695 across the Patapsco River, southeast of the Baltimore metropolitan area.

The U.S. Coastline Guard did not right away respond to a CNBC request for comment.
