Iran sentences previous president’s daughter to a 5-12 months prison time period

The activist daughter of previous Iranian president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani has been sentenced to 5 a long time in jail, her lawyer said on Tuesday.

The law firm did not give element of the charges towards Faezeh Hashemi. But Tehran’s community prosecutor indicted Hashemi past 12 months on rates of “propaganda versus the system”, according to the semi-formal ISNA information company.

Point out media in September documented she experienced been arrested for “inciting riots” in Tehran in the course of protests induced by the dying of a young Kurdish woman in law enforcement custody.

The demonstrations have posed one of the biggest difficulties to Iran’s clerical rulers given that the 1979 revolution.

“Adhering to the arrest of Ms. Faezeh Hashemi, she was sentenced to five many years in prison but the sentence is not ultimate,” defence law firm Neda Shams wrote on her Twitter account.

In 2012, Faezeh Hashemi was sentenced to jail and banned from political functions for “anti condition propaganda” relationship back again to the 2009 disputed presidential election.

Her father died in 2017.

Previous president Rafsanjani’s pragmatic guidelines of economic liberalisation and better relations with the West attracted fierce supporters and equally fierce critics during his lifetime. He was 1 of the founders of the Islamic Republic.
