Climate campaigner Greta Thunberg was detained along with other activists on Tuesday through protests in opposition to the demolition of the coal village of Luetzerath but the complete group will be introduced later on in the working day, according to police.

“There is no cause to keep them for days. It could possibly get hours or they will go straight away,” a spokesperson for regional police in Aachen stated, speaking about the total team of demonstrators.

Thunberg was held when protesting at the opencast coal mine of Garzweiler 2, some 9 km (5.6 miles) from Luetzerath, where by she sat with a group of protesters around the edge of the mine.
