Rep. Greg Steube is “producing progress” but remained hospitalized Thursday with “many major injuries” he sustained just after a 25-foot fall off a ladder at his Florida household, his business office explained.

The 44-yr-old Residence Republican invested the evening in an intensive treatment unit after he was “knocked” off the ladder when reducing tree limbs on his property late Wednesday afternoon, Steube’s business mentioned in tweets from his official account.

Steube’s accidents “are even now under evaluation but not life threatening at this time,” his place of work stated. “He is building progress and in good spirits.”

It thanked the health care staff managing him and Sarasota County’s unexpected emergency expert services, as nicely as “the particular person who witnessed the slide and immediately referred to as 911.”

It is unclear whether Steube will be unable to travel to Washington, D.C., to accomplish his duties, and if so for how very long. A 3rd-time period congressman from Florida’s 17th Congressional District, Steube had not too long ago been named to the strong Property Approaches and Suggests Committee. He received his latest election with just about 64% of the vote.

“Our family’s prayers go out to Congressman Steube this early morning,” tweeted Joe Scarborough, a previous Florida Republican congressman turned MSNBC morning host and repeated GOP critic. “We pray for Greg’s fast restoration and pray also that he and his loved ones will be surrounded with like and support.”

Steube’s opportunity absence could even further slim the currently slender Republican greater part in the Household, giving Dwelling Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., even much less leeway for dissent as he seeks to corral his caucus forward of a fraught legislative session.

Earlier Thursday morning, McCarthy reiterated his vow to finish proxy voting in the Residence, a Covid-period plan enacted less than his Democratic predecessor, current Rep. Nancy Pelosi.
