Cruise introduced a round of layoffs Thursday affecting agreement employees who worked on its driverless ridehailing service, CNBC has discovered. The cuts integrated those people who assistance with cleaning autos, fleet charging and fielding client assistance inquiries.

The company declined to share a specific selection.

“Cruise has made the complicated determination to lower a portion of the contingent workforce that supported driverless ridehail operations,” a company spokesperson informed CNBC in a assertion. “These contingent employees had been responsible for function this kind of as cleansing, charging and keeping the fleet, and we’re grateful for their contributions.”
