DETROIT – General Motors announced ideas Monday to make investments $632 million for generation of its future-generation entire-dimension pickup vehicles at a plant in Indiana.

The expenditure is the automaker’s third this kind of announcement in the past week involving GM’s future-generation big vehicles and SUVs, which are centered on the similar automobile architecture and share some interior pieces. The investments declared in current days total more than $2.1 billion.

GM said the financial commitment in its Fort Wayne plant in Indiana will help new conveyors, tooling and equipment in the plant’s entire body and basic assembly spots for creation of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 versions.

The expenditure in Indiana is more affirmation that the corporation designs to continue to devote on its conventional operations to help in funding its emerging electric motor vehicle enterprise.

The organization has mentioned it designs to exclusively offer purchaser EVs by 2035, including new all-electric powered variations of the Silverado later on this 12 months and Sierra Denali in early 2024.

The financial investment bulletins come forward of contract negotiations involving the Detroit automakers, which include GM, and the United Vehicle Employees union this summer.

This year’s negotiations are expected to be among the the most contentious and essential in new memory, fueled by a yearslong structured labor movement throughout the state, a professional-union president and an industry in changeover to all-electric autos.
