The U.S. Justice Department is investigating Minnesota officials including Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey over an alleged conspiracy to impede immigration agents, CBS News reported on Friday, citing multiple sources familiar with the matter.

The probe by the Justice Department stems from previous statements made by Walz and Frey about the thousands of Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers and Border Patrol agents deployed to the Minneapolis region in recent weeks, CBS News said.

The Trump administration has sent nearly 3,000 federal agents to Minnesota.

The Justice Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
