Pennsylvania’s Democratic Lt. Gov. John Fetterman will defeat Republican Dr. Mehmet Oz in a pivotal Senate race that could establish a decisive blow in the battle for command of the higher chamber of Congress, NBC News tasks.

With 90% of the vote counted, Fetterman led Oz 49.4% to 48.1%, a margin of about 66,000 votes, in accordance to NBC.

Fetterman will do well retiring GOP Sen. Pat Toomey, going a Republican-held Senate seat into Democratic hands.

Democrats, who held the slimmest-attainable Senate the vast majority heading into Election Day, were being banking on flipping the seat in the critical swing condition, wherever President Joe Biden defeated former President Donald Trump two a long time previously.

The projected verdict offers another blow to Trump, who backed Oz in a tricky-fought GOP main election and campaigned for him in the common.

“It’s official. I will be the subsequent U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania,” Fetterman tweeted early Wednesday early morning.

A spokeswoman for Oz did not straight away respond to CNBC’s ask for for comment on NBC’s projection.
