British isles regulator extends deadline for Microsoft-Activision probe by 6 months

LONDON — The U.K. competitiveness regulator on Friday explained it is extending the deadline for its assessment of Microsoft‘s takeover of movie match publisher of Activision Blizzard by six months.

The extension will give the watchdog more time to evaluation proposals by the two get-togethers to resolve its issues after it paused a campaign to block the deal.

“The Inquiry Team has made the decision to extend by six months … as it considers that there are specific reasons to do so. The revised period of time will as a result conclusion on 29 August 2023,” the U.K. Competitiveness and Marketplaces Authority reported Friday.

The British regulator has been a stalwart opponent of Microsoft’s $69-billion order of Activision Blizzard, inclusively blocking the offer in April about competitors concerns in the nascent cloud gaming market place.

The CMA appeared to soften its tone previously in the 7 days, signaling it was completely ready to resume discussions with the Redmond tech titan.

FTC files appeal to pause Microsoft-Activision deal

“We stand completely ready to take into account any proposals from Microsoft to restructure the transaction in a way that would deal with the problems established out in our Remaining Report,” a CMA spokesperson explained to CNBC by using electronic mail on Tuesday.
