Big hearth documented on important bridge linking Russia to Crimea

KHARKIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russian state-backed media documented Saturday that a hearth broke out on the bridge linking mainland Russia with the Russian-controlled Crimean Peninsula, several hours following potent blasts rocked the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv.

RIA-Novosti and the Tass news company quoted local Russian official Oleg Kryuchkov as saying an item thought to be a gasoline storage tank caught fireplace and that website traffic has been stopped on the bridge.

Photographs shared on social media purported to clearly show fire and injury to the span. The authenticity of the studies and photographs could not be instantly verified.

The crossing is a pair of street and rail bridges that Russia created following it seized and annexed Crimea from Ukraine in violation of intercontinental legislation in 2014.

The fireplace transpired hours right after explosions rocked the japanese Ukrainian town of Kharkiv early Saturday, sending towering plumes of smoke into the sky and triggering a collection of secondary explosions.

Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov mentioned on Telegram that the early-morning explosions had been the end result of missile strikes in the middle of the city.
