U.S. President Joe Biden reported he isn’t going to feel Russian President Vladimir Putin will use nuclear weapons inspite of repeated threats to do so — even as the Russian chief continues to push on in the war in Ukraine.

“Perfectly, I do not believe he will,” Biden explained in an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper that was aired Tuesday. “But I imagine that it really is irresponsible for him to discuss about it.”

Putin has indirectly threatened to use nuclear weapons. In a televised speech in September, he announced a partial armed forces mobilization and mentioned he would “definitely use all the means at our disposal to safeguard Russia and our people today.” He additional that he was not bluffing.

On Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, Biden mentioned: “I feel he assumed … he was likely to be welcomed with open up arms. That this was, this has been, the residence of Mom Russia and Kyiv and, as a result, he was going to welcomed.”
