Belarusian human legal rights activist Ales Bialiatski, Russian human legal rights firm Memorial and the Ukrainian human rights firm Center for Civil Liberties have been awarded the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize.
Bialiatski, 60, served spark the democracy movement that started in Belarus in the 1980s. Bialiatski’s campaign group, Viasna, has documented and spoken out towards the use of torture on political prisoners in Belarus.
Alexander Lukashenko has been president of Belarus given that 1994, when the country recognized a new constitution following the crack-up of the Soviet Union.
