Amazon briefly closes some Florida warehouses as Hurricane Ian approaches

Amazon is quickly closing warehouses in elements of Florida as Hurricane Ian churns towards the state.

The enterprise on Tuesday shuttered web pages in the vicinity of Tampa and Orlando, according to notices sent to workforce and reviewed by CNBC. Amazon expects the services to stay shut until Friday, the notices state.

“We will continue on to observe the climate and will deliver updates on when the setting up will reopen,” according to one notice, which was sent to employees at a facility in the Tampa suburb of Temple Terrace.

Amazon confirmed that it is closing some web sites as a security precaution ahead of the storm.

“We’re closely monitoring the route of Hurricane Ian and creating adjustments to our operations in purchase to continue to keep our workers and individuals delivering for us harmless,” Richard Rocha, and Amazon spokesperson, mentioned in a statement. “We are in standard speak to with our staff members and supply companions to make certain every person is mindful of any web-site closures or unsafe circumstances and will carry on to make changes as essential.”

The Nationwide Hurricane Centre on Tuesday upgraded Hurricane Ian to a Category 3 storm, with most sustained winds of 120 miles for every hour.
