Russia will be asked to notice a ceasefire in Ukraine through the Paris Olympics, French President Emmanuel Macron said in an interview from Paris proven on Ukrainian tv and posted by a Ukrainian journalist on her YouTube channel on Saturday.

“The desire for a ceasefire all through the Olympics. They [the Russians] will have to do this. That is what has always occurred,” the interviewer stated, speaking via an interpreter.

“It will be asked for,” Macron says in French ahead of a voiceover interpretation gives his response in Ukrainian as “Sure, we will check with for it.”

“The rule of the host country is to shift in action with the Olympic motion,” the interpreter quoted Macron as saying. “This is a concept of peace. We will also abide by the determination of the Olympic Committee.”

The International Olympic Committee condemned Russia’s all-out invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, stating the Russian govt had breached the Olympic Truce, which aims to harness the electrical power of sport to advertise peace and dialogue.

On Thursday, the president of the Russian Olympic Committee explained the ROC would not boycott this year’s Paris Olympics, inspite of limitations on athletes imposed by the IOC as punishment for the invasion of Ukraine.
