Magnitude 5.8 earthquake strikes China&#x27s Xinjiang area

A 5.8-magnitude struck Akqi County in China’s northwestern Xinjiang location at 12:14 p.m. (0414 GMT) on Sunday, the China Earthquake Networks Middle (CENC) stated.

The quake was at a depth of 11 km (6.84 miles), CENC mentioned.

No casualties or collapsed residences experienced been documented as of 1:00 p.m., Xinhua noted citing neighborhood authorities, including the locations all over the epicenter are sparsely populated.

The community main grid and energy distribution networks are running as standard, and nearby educate functions have not been affected, Xinhua extra.

A 7.1-magnitude earthquake shook the Kyrgyzstan-Xinjiang border area on Jan. 23, killing at minimum 3 people.
