Denmark’s Queen Margrethe II has declared her decision to abdicate the throne up coming thirty day period.

The 83-calendar year-old monarch, whose function is mostly ceremonial, created the announcement on Sunday during her New Year’s speech.

She claimed she would move down on Jan. 14, which is the anniversary of the 1972 loss of life of her father, King Frederik IX, and her succeeding him on the throne.
