The Biden administration has advised the Israeli government that it wants the region to stop its substantial-scale floor campaign in Gaza and transition to a far more focused phase of its war in opposition to Hamas, two U.S. officers familiar with the conversations advised NBC News.

The officers pressured that White House national stability adviser Jake Sullivan did not specify a timetable for this new phase of the war for the duration of his conference Thursday with Israeli Primary Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
