WASHINGTON — Social media big TikTok should really be demonetized in the U.S. except the Chinese government hands above its algorithm, Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., explained Wednesday.

“It is not about banning it, it is about letting [TikToks] not to be monetized,” Rubio explained at CNBC’s CFO Council Summit in Washington, D.C.

Rubio has earlier said that demonetizing TikTok was tantamount to banning it, and he launched laws final 12 months to do exactly that.

“It is time to ban Beijing-controlled TikTok for great,” Rubio said in a December 2022 statement on his invoice.
