Hamburg airport hostage standoff is above and the suspect arrested, police say

Law enforcement arrested a person and rescued a little one at the middle of a hostage standoff at Hamburg airport on Sunday, ending a crisis that experienced forced authorities to shut the fast paced air hub.

A person, who police reported was suspected of carrying a gun, and probably explosives, drove a vehicle by the gates of the airport on Saturday evening, officers said.

Police reported the 35-12 months-old male was with his four-calendar year-previous daughter and was thought to be included in a custody dispute.

“The hostage problem is above,” the city’s police force wrote on X, formerly regarded as Twitter, early on Sunday afternoon.

“The suspect received out of the car with his daughter. The man was arrested by the unexpected emergency companies without the need of resistance. The baby appears to be unharmed,” it added.

The airport stated it was performing to resume functions as rapidly as feasible. A complete of 286 flights with about 34,500 passengers experienced been scheduled for Sunday, it mentioned before.

“I want the mother, the youngster and her household a large amount of strength to cope with this horrible working experience,” Hamburg mayor Peter Tschentscher wrote on X.

The episode elevated fears above stability at the airport fewer than 4 months immediately after weather activists obtained onto the runway and blocked planes.
