Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, stated on an earnings connect with late Tuesday that China is an “crucial” current market and that the semiconductor huge wants to be absolutely compliant with U.S. export controls.

“As we believe about definitely the accelerator marketplace, our plan is to of training course be completely compliant with U.S. export controls but we do feel you will find an prospect to establish items for our shopper established in China that is hunting for AI answers and we’ll go on to perform in that way,” Su said.

Accelerator chips are the type of semiconductors necessary to teach enormous amounts of knowledge for synthetic intelligence apps.

AMD is gearing up to maximize creation of its MI300 chip which it is positioning as a rival to Nvidia’s graphics processing units used for AI coaching. Nvidia dominates the industry but AMD is hoping to challenge it with its newest chip.

Earlier this calendar year, the U.S. authorities limited Nvidia from promoting its A100 and H100 chips to China. The H100 is one of Nvidia’s key AI chips. Nvidia made the decision to develop a chip with tweaks to the H100’s specs that complied with the export curbs.

Intel also built a modified variation of its its Gaudi 2 AI chips for the Chinese current market.

China stays a lucrative marketplace for U.S. chipmakers, certain in AI in which there are several homegrown solutions to the likes of Nvidia.
