More than 7,000 U.S. flights were being delayed and nearly 900 canceled on Sunday as thunderstorms snarled air vacation in and out of some of the country’s busiest airports and the Federal Aviation Administration briefly halted departures to big airports serving Washington D.C., citing repairs to a electric power panel wanted at an air site visitors manage facility.

Soon right after 6 p.m. ET, the FAA issued ground stops for Baltimore/Washington Worldwide Thurgood Marshall Airport, Ronald Reagan Washington Countrywide Airport and Dulles Global Airport, protecting against plane from using off for people destinations. It lifted the orders inside an hour.

“Departures to D.C.-spot airports have resumed and repairs to the communications electricity panel are finish,” the FAA said in a statement. “All through the repairs, a again-up system dealt with communications safely.” Delays at Washington Dulles ended up averaging around 90 minutes as of 7:15 p.m.

In the course of Sunday, climate brought about delays at airports from Miami to Boston to Detroit.

Much more than 440 flights to and from Newark Liberty International Airport were being delayed. The airport is a big hub of United Airlines, which experienced much more than 840 delayed flights Sunday, in accordance to FlightAware. American Airlines posted 938 delayed flights, 27% of its mainline plan, Delta Air Strains had 716, or 20% of its agenda, and New York-based JetBlue Airways experienced 472 delays, or 45% of its prepared routine.
