Spotify exec calls Harry and Meghan ‘grifters’ after podcast deal comes to early conclusion


The collaborative attempts in between Spotify and Harry and Meghan has resulted in just a person, 12-episode series of the podcast “Archetypes.”

Spotify govt Bill Simmons explained Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, as “grifters” following the couple’s partnership with the streaming platform arrived to a seemingly premature end Friday.

The partnership with Harry and Meghan’s output organization Archewell Audio, to start with announced in Dec. 2020, was initially explained by Spotify as a “multiyear partnership,” with the promise of providing “podcasts that will encourage.” 

Having said that, the collaborative endeavours have resulted in just 1, 12-episode collection of the podcast “Archetypes,” which saw Meghan interview notable visitors, including Serena Williams and Mariah Carey.

The offer was broadly claimed at the time to be truly worth about $20 million. 

“Spotify and Archewell Audio have mutually agreed to component ways and are proud of the series we made jointly,” Spotify and Archewell Audio claimed in a joint assertion.

This isn’t the 1st time that Bill Simmons, Spotify’s head of podcast innovation and monetization, has made disparaging remarks about the previous functioning royals, acquiring formerly said that he was “embarrassed” to share the Spotify platform with Harry.

“Shoot this man to the sun, I’m so fatigued of this dude,” Simmons mentioned on his self-titled podcast in January.

Simmons has previously landed in warm water for voicing controversial views, such as in 2014 when he was suspended by ESPN in excess of remarks that he made about a domestic violence circumstance.

Spotify declined to answer to Simmons’ remarks when contacted by CNBC. Archewell Audio did not straight away react to CNBC’s ask for for remark.
