WASHINGTON — Higher-stakes negotiations around raising the debit limit abruptly came to a halt Friday on Capitol Hill, right after Republican negotiators walked out of the area and blamed the White Household for keeping up the talks.

“Right until folks are prepared to have acceptable discussions about how you can actually transfer forward and do the appropriate thing, then we’re not gonna sit listed here and communicate to ourselves,” Rep. Garret Graves, R-La., instructed reporters.

“We resolved to press pause because it is really just not productive,” he added. Graves explained he did not know if talks would resume this weekend.

Economic markets dipped on the news, which arrived just after a constructive week of talks that signaled a deal was shut.
