GOP Rep. George Santos has been charged by the Justice Office

Rep. George Santos, the scandal-plagued freshman Republican lawmaker who admitted lying about his qualifications on the marketing campaign trail, has been charged by the Division of Justice, NBC Information reported Tuesday, citing resources familiar with the make any difference.

The mother nature of the federal rates against the sitting congressman was not immediately acknowledged. But a single supply advised NBC that Santos could surrender in courtroom in Long Island, New York, as early as Wednesday.

Santos’ law firm and spokesperson did not immediately reply to CNBC’s requests for remark. A spokeswoman for the U.S. District Courtroom for the Eastern District of New York declined to comment.

The freshman Republican lawmaker from New York has been underneath mounting scrutiny for an array of scandals that have outlined his short time in Congress.
