Trump faces deposition in New York AG Letitia James’ fraud lawsuit

Donald Trump stated he is staying deposed Thursday in New York Metropolis as portion of the state legal professional general’s $250 million civil lawsuit alleging common fraud by the previous president and his corporation.

Trump introduced on social media overnight that he had “just arrived in Manhattan for a deposition in entrance of” New York Legal professional Basic Letitia James as portion of the sweeping lawsuit.

In another publish Thursday early morning, Trump claimed he was “heading downtown” to be deposed. He accused James of leaking that the appointment was scheduled at 9:30 a.m. ET.

Trump’s vacation marks the second time in less than two months that he has traveled to the Empire State to answer to court docket actions towards him. The ex-president faces various prison and civil proceedings as he would make a third bid for the Republican presidential nomination.

Trump previously flew from his property point out of Florida to New York to surrender to authorities subsequent his indictment in a independent prison case centered on hush income payments manufactured before the 2016 presidential election. The previous president pleaded not responsible to 34 counts of falsifying small business records in that case, which is currently being prosecuted by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

Neither James’ business office nor lawyers for Trump right away responded to requests for remark on the deposition.

James submitted the civil fraud lawsuit last September versus Trump, three of his grownup young children, the Trump Firm and many others. The fit accuses Trump of frequently overstating the values of his assets in statements to banks, insurance plan corporations and the IRS in order to receive better loan and tax conditions.

In addition to the significant financial penalty, James wishes to bar Trump’s corporations from performing company in New York. She also wants to permanently halt Trump, Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump and Ivanka Trump from serving as an officer of a corporation in the state.

Previous August, ahead of James filed the fraud fit, Trump sat for a deposition with James’ workplace and invoked his Fifth Amendment ideal towards self-incrimination more than 400 times.

Trump’s social media posts ahead of the hottest deposition railed against James, the 1st Black woman to hold her title, as a “racist” and a “lowlife” who was biased from him.
