ASEAN ‘strongly condemns’ fatal airstrike in Myanmar which reportedly killed up to 100

The chair of the Affiliation of Southeast Asian Nations said on Thursday the bloc “strongly condemns” a military services airstrike this 7 days on a village in Myanmar, which is claimed to have killed up to 100 individuals together with civilians.

ASEAN agreed a peace approach with the junta in 2021 but members have been progressively disappointed by the military’s failure to halt offensives and open dialogue with the resistance movement backed by ethnic minority armies and a shadow Countrywide Unity Authorities, or NUG, which the junta has declared a “terrorist” movement.

A junta spokesperson said Tuesday’s attack specific a ceremony held by the NUG for their armed People’s Defense Power, adding the assault aimed to restore peace and security in the location.
