Johnson & Johnson on Tuesday reported it will pay $8.9 billion around the next 25 yrs to settle allegations that the company’s toddler powder and other talc items prompted cancer.

The organization proposed the settlement in a securities filing.

But J&J even now pushed back on the talc allegations.

“The Business carries on to believe that that these statements are specious and absence scientific benefit,” claimed Erik Haas, J&J’s around the globe vice president of litigation, in a statement.

The firm finished gross sales of its talc-based mostly little one powder globally in 2023 just after it confronted 1000’s of lawsuits from buyers proclaiming its talc solutions prompted cancer thanks to contamination with a carcinogen referred to as asbestos.

J&J spun off subsidiary LTL administration in October 2021 in a bid to minimize its losses from litigation and settlement. The firm funneled its talc lawsuits to the subsidiary and declared it bankrupt.
