Japan authorities find prison charges versus Dentsu, many others more than Olympics contracts

Japan’s Honest Trade Fee mentioned on Tuesday it submitted felony grievances against Dentsu and 5 other firms as well as seven folks around alleged bid-rigging on contracts for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The criticism marks the latest enhancement in months of investigations into alleged corruption in the organizing and sponsorship of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics Online games, held in 2021 following a pandemic-driven postponement.

“We determined that this is a destructive and critical circumstance that will have a broad influence on people’s lives,” FTC investigator Goh Okumura instructed a media briefing.

The other organizations named in the complaint are Hakuhodo DY Holdings, Tokyu Agency, Fuji Resourceful Company, Cerespo and Similar Two, the FTC reported.

All six firms experienced no immediate remark when contacted by Reuters. Tokyo prosecutors are preparing to the provide the rates on Tuesday, Kyodo Information agency claimed.

Prosecutors this month arrested a former Tokyo Olympics organizing committee formal and executives at Dentsu and other folks about the scenario, in which the agencies had been suspected of colluding in 2018 to rig the bids for the Games’ test gatherings.

Dentsu, Cerespo and Fuji Imaginative have previously been barred from bidding for contracts at the marketplace, foreign and education ministries for nine months.

The bid-rigging circumstance will come right after a bribery scandal, in which Haruyuki Takahashi, a former member of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics board and ahead of that a Dentsu govt, was arrested last year on suspicion of receiving bribes from Olympic sponsors.
