Tesla staff in New York have introduced a marketing campaign to arrange a union with Workers United Upstate New York, according to a release posted to Twitter Tuesday.

The union, Tesla Staff United, would be the initially for Tesla if it is formed. The campaign will set the stage for a new labor fight with CEO Elon Musk, who has openly expressed his opposition to unions in the earlier.

“We want Tesla to be the organization we know it can be,” the staff wrote in the release. “Our union will further Tesla’s rules and aims, such as by supporting to provide as the conscience of the business and by ensuring and deepening our tradition of have confidence in and respect.”

In 2018, Musk shared a tweet that stated staff would reduce inventory options if they shaped a union. “Practically nothing halting Tesla group at our automobile plant from voting union,” he claimed at the time. “Could do so tmrw if they preferred. But why fork out union dues & give up inventory selections for nothing at all?”

He was later directed to delete the tweet by the U.S. Countrywide Labor Relations Board.

The up coming action for organizers is to gather signatures from staff indicating they want a union. Then, they’re going to likely file a petition with the National Labor Relations Board, indicating they seek to hold a union election.

At the very least 30% of the staff in a probable bargaining unit will have to indicator cards for an election to be held.
