Southwest pilots’ union calls vote to authorize prospective strike as contract talks sour

Southwest Airways pilots’ union options to maintain a vote that could give it the electric power to phone a prospective strike, a transfer that will come weeks following the carrier’s vacation meltdown additional strained ties with its workers’ unions.

Even if Southwest’s pilots vote in favor of giving the union authority to connect with a strike, it wouldn’t be fast and it would call for permissions from the federal Countrywide Mediation Board.

Southwest and the Southwest Airways Pilots Affiliation have been in negotiations for a new agreement for a long time.

Union leaders have targeted on far better do the job regulations and scheduling for Southwest personnel. Throughout the travel chaos past month, many pilots and flight attendants were stranded and had to hold out on hold to arrive at schedulers or resort providers.

The union’s president, Casey Murray, mentioned it was the initial time the union has held a strike authorization vote.

“This decision is not one particular dependent on emotion, but I would be lying if I explained that I was not offended,” Murray wrote to pilots. He claimed the union is also negotiating “gratitude fork out to compensate our Pilots who endured by means of the meltdown.”

The strike vote will start off May 1, Murray reported. Delta Air Traces pilots voted in Oct in favor of permitting the union to authorize a strike, though the union and business about a month afterwards achieved a preliminary offer for a new deal.
