Former staff of SpaceX have filed federal problems in opposition to the firm, alleging Elon Musk’s undertaking illegally fired them in reaction to the concerns they expressed, together with about sexual misconduct allegations directed at the CEO.

8 problems, filed on Wednesday with the Countrywide Labor Relations Board, say the organization performed a “marketing campaign of retaliation and intimidation” in reaction to workers who internally circulated an open letter to executives. The former employees allege that SpaceX violated the Countrywide Labor Relations Act of 1935 by firing them after they spoke up.

The grievances — one of which was submitted by Paige Holland-Thielen and first claimed by The New York Moments — allege that SpaceX fired 5 workforce the working day following the open up letter was distributed in June.

The issues also allege that SpaceX terminated four some others in July and August “in retaliation” for either drafting or sharing the letter internally. The additional firings followed conferences and interviews with “dozens of staff” where by SpaceX “falsely” reported “the discussions had been attorney-client privileged and could not be disclosed to any person,” in accordance to the complaints.

SpaceX did not right away respond to CNBC’s request for comment on the problems.

Holland-Thielen and her co-workers wrote the letter as a protest of Musk’s community statements, subsequent a report that claimed he propositioned a flight attendant on one of SpaceX’s private jets in 2016. The letter, a duplicate of which was incorporated in the grievance reviewed by CNBC, was directed “to the executives of SpaceX” and went outside of the distinct misconduct allegations. In the letter, the previous staff members wrote that Musk’s “actions in the community sphere is a recurrent source of distraction and shame for us,” noting that he “is witnessed as the confront of SpaceX.”

The letter identified as for SpaceX to condemn “Musk’s unsafe habits.”

“By keeping silent on his community actions, taken on [Twitter] which is regarded official business conversation, SpaceX and its executives have affirmed that Elon’s conduct is suitable at our firm,” the letter claimed.

Moreover, the letter stated that the “present units and culture” at SpaceX “do not dwell up to its mentioned values,” with “unequal enforcement” of its “no a–gap” and “zero tolerance” procedures. SpaceX President and COO Gwynne Shotwell has earlier described all those guidelines, including in an electronic mail to workers responding to the open up letter. Shotwell also dealt with the misconduct allegations created towards Musk in her June e mail, titled: “Be sure to stay concentrated on the SpaceX mission.”

“Personally, I consider the allegations to be fake not because I get the job done for Elon, but mainly because I have labored carefully with him for 20 many years and under no circumstances noticed nor heard something resembling these allegations,” Shotwell wrote at the time.
