President Donald Trump said Thursday night that he was terminating all U.S. trade negotiations with Canada because the country was airing an advertisement featuring former President Ronald Reagan speaking negatively about tariffs.

Trump made the announcement in a Truth Social post, more than a week after Doug Ford, the premier of the Ontario province in Canada, said the province would spend $75 million on ads to run in the United States featuring Reagan criticizing tariffs.

“The Ronald Reagan Foundation has just announced that Canada has fraudulently used an advertisement, which is FAKE, featuring Ronald Reagan speaking negatively about Tariffs,” Trump wrote.

“The ad was for $75,000. They only did this to interfere with the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court, and other courts,” Trump wrote.

“TARIFFS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO THE NATIONAL SECURITY, AND ECONOMY, OF THE U.S.A. Based on their egregious behavior, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA ARE HEREBY TERMINATED. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
